by Dennis
March 30th, 2010

This Phattie snare features a 10-ply 12″x7″ shell wrapped in a Jet Black high-gloss wrap with Green Onyx inlays.  Complimented by the Black Chrome hardware, this color combo looks great in person, the pictures don’t capture the true color contrast.

Burnt Sienna Satin Lacquer Burst, with color matched wood hoops!

by Dennis
March 26th, 2010

This unique build features our popular Burnt Sienna Satin Lacquer with a dark airbrushed burst that carries onto the great sounding Yamaha-Style maple hoops.  Both the visual and acoustic effects of this kit are over the top!  The main drum is 18″x24″ and provides a deeper thump than our standard 16″x24″ cocktail drums.  The snare is a beefy 13″x7″, and the rack tom is a traditional 12″x8″.  The Yamaha-style hoops provide a nice deep tone to the drums and great cross-stick action on the snare.  A vintage style DW Rail Mount was used to mount the 12″ tom, and provides a large range of movement that allows the tom to be placed in a more traditional trap-kit style setup.  A Dunnett R-Class strainer, internal Shure Beta 52A and a full set of Protection Racket cases completed this setup for a “ready-to-rock’n'roll-in-only-one-trip-to-the-car” dream kit!

Piano Black Cocktail Kit, a special build…

by Dennis
March 24th, 2010

This cocktail kit featured several elements that made it a fun and challenging custom build.  The piano black lacquer is one of the deepest and nicest paint jobs you’ll find, buffed to a true mirror shine.  All of the hardware is from Pearl, specifically matched to a customers existing black Pearl drums, from the brass inserts to the engraved Pearl SuperHoops.  Inside is a Kelly Shu mount suspending a Shure Beta 52A, wired to a permanent xlr jack for easy mic setup at any venue.  The sizes included 6″ and 8″ timbales, 8″ and 10″ toms, 10″ and 12″ snares, and the 24″x16″ main drum with a custom wood hoop on the bass-batter side.  Check it out:

Chris Simmons gives us a little taste of his chops…

by Dennis
March 23rd, 2010

and a listen to the sound of his Phattie Drums.  Recorded on a Zoom Q3 with no post-processing, so the audio is true to the drums.  Crank it up on a good set of headphones or speakers to enjoy the sweet bass tone.  The toms in this clip are 12″x8″, 14″x12″, and 16″x14″, all with Evans G-Plus heads tuned nice and high.  The bass is a 24″x20″ with no ports for that deep full sound, and the snare is a 14″x6″ 20-ply vented, all from the Phattie Classic Series.  Check it out:
