This beautiful kit went overseas to our friend Peter Kates, the Principal Percussionist of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The wrap is a hard to find Champagne Sparkle, made from real flecks of silver and copper laminated under a clear coat. It’s not really a sparkle, not really a glass glitter, but more of a unique shimmer from the real metals used in it. The photos to the talking on this one, check it out:
This unique cocktail was created for euGENE Wendell, and is one of the more unique and versatile cocktail kits I’ve done recently. The finish is a rare and discontinued Peacock Pearl, I was able to snag the last few sheets from a friend in Nashville, just enough to make this versatile setup. The main cocktail drum features a 18″x16″ main drum with an 18″x8″ woofer attached. The tom is a 13″x9″ with custom built wood hoops, and the snare is a 13″x6″ with diecast hoops. The list of custom touches includes Phattie badges, a Dunnett R-Class strainer with quick-release snare change ability, DW/Dunnett quick release spurs for setting up the main cocktail drum as a kick drum, and XLR jacks installed in each drum for internal mic’ing. This kit is a Phattie Hybrid Series that features 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ rack toms, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, a thumping 22″x20″ bass, and a matching 14″x8″ snare. The finish is Broken Glass Glitter with lightly frosted clear acrylic inserts and classic tear-drop style lugs holding it all together. The lighting system was created in-house, and features multiple channels of control allowing different drums to be different colors, and greatly expands the light-show possibilities and programming options of the kit. I’ve got a special Black Label project that’s been in the works for a long time, that you’ll get to see in the next month or so as all the little details come together and it gets wrapped up. This one has required some special parts sourcing and design work on a number of levels, from the very custom finish to getting exactly the right vintage hardware. The vintage gear heads will appreciate the quality of the chrome on this Rogers mount, one of the special pieces to the puzzle of this killer project:
